Four months ago I wrote a blog post entitled: Putting Our Heads Together – The Awesome Power Of Networking. I’m an enormous believer in meeting new people and listening to what others have to say and more importantly what they are doing about what they have to say. What actions are they taking? A comment was left on my post that read as follows:
“Jeff, speaking of networking..I’m in Barcelona for 2-3 weeks (got in last night). I saw that we have a number of common connections on FB and would love to grab coffee or lunch with you. I’m working on a new travel startup that I’d like to get your feedback on.”

Drew and I exchanged a few emails and set a time for a get together. We met at one of my favorite Barcelona coffee shops, ordered up a couple of con leches and Drew started to tell me about himself and his passion for travel and how he wanted to create a solution that could really benefit travelers. His idea was sound but he had yet to write it down on paper and flush it out. I made the following suggestions:
Create a 2 page Executive Summary.
Create a 2 page Business Plan.
Create a simple Power Point.
Create a simple Wireframe so he could present to others.
It was just 5 days later that Drew had done all the above. He took action.
Since I met Drew back in July, he has continued to travel and worked on his beta version of his Startup: ohheyworld.
Most recently he applied for Startup Chile, he will know if accepted into the program late November.
Drew exudes confidence and tells a great story. Why? Because it is his passion. He lives and breathes it.
Should you have the opportunity to transform one of your passions into a business – Go for it, take action.

Networking is a very powerful way to make good progress. The comment, “It is not what you know but who you know that will make the difference in a new start up Venture.”. There is no doubt this is the vehicle for success. If one finds something that they like and are good at, this can be turned into a successful business project as this Blog demonstrates.

In this short anecdotal post, you touch on the two most important things when it comes to transforming a passion into a business: making a map and taking action. Business plans are vital, even if you’re going it alone in business I think. And action… well, without that you go nowhere. Great reminders!

I personally think that a person can say that he/she has the perfect life when he/she can live on doing what he/she likes. Being his/her own boss, without being humiliated by the boss or being watched with hatred by the workmates and earning money in a positive way. I, for example want to make art, I want to become an artist and live with this and I want to go to an art university, but my parents do not allow me to do this. They say I will starve if I do this.
